RISD Dysphagia Team
We wanted to inform you of the new RISD Dysphagia Team role, and the responsibility of all campus SLPs in dysphagia management.
The RISD Guidelines can be found here.
It is important to note that the campus-based SLP should always contact a member of the Dysphagia Team prior to any action being taken on behalf of the student. The Dysphagia referral form can be found here.
The school-based SLP role in dysphagia management is different from the medical model of therapy. The student must be able to access FAPE. Please make special note of the "What's in the Law?" section of the guidelines. School-based SLPs should not be providing feeding therapy to a student.
Once the Dysphagia Team has been notified, a member of the team will contact you regarding the next steps for your student.
If you are directed to have questionnaires completed, you can find the Parent Feeding Questionnaire here. You can find the Teacher Feeding Questionnaire here. The teacher, or the teacher and the campus SLP, can complete the teacher questionnaire.
If you would like to access the powerpoint from the staff training provided regarding the Dysphagia Policy and Procedures, you can find it here.
Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions you may have! We are here to help you.
