First Language Influence on Phonology

Hi Everyone! To help you with evaluating articulation in English Language Learners, I've scanned the table from the TSHA CLD Articulation manual that shows the influence of many languages on students' articulation. It is here and also in our evaluation google drive folder! - Mandy

Great CE on speechpathology.com

Hey all! I watched a really great webinar on Executive Functioning that I thought y'all might be interested in. It's through speechpathology.com. Part one: Diagnosing Executive Function in School-Aged Children (1.5 hours) Part two: Relationships Between Language and Executive Functions: Planning and Regulating (1.5 hours) The information really reminded me of a lot of my students and gave helpful suggestions for treatment specifically related to language and EF ability. Also - if you aren't on speechpathology.com, they have awesome CEs in all kinds of areas. It is $99/year and so worth it! If you are going to sign up for an account, use this code: https://www.speechpathology.com/memberships/invite/1528945 Enjoy! :) - Lori Hartgraves, MHE

Slow Down Voice Recordings

Hello! A few SLPs wanted a demonstration video for slowing down a voice recording. I made a demonstration video, but I only know how to do it on Macs through the app Garage Band. I use it when scoring the SSI and writing up long language samples. I've added the demonstration video to SLP Google Drive>Evaluation>Fluency.  - Delaney Andrews

Outside Speech Resources

Hi wonderful SLP's! Does anyone have a good resource list for outside speech therapy options that I can share with a parent? The student is AU/SI in my SLC program and is in 1st grade. The family is currently in RISD but I just found out they are moving to Irving in a couple of weeks. Parent has requested help in finding outside resources and I was hoping to give her a list. Thanks! -Lori Hartgraves, MHE

Here is some information about the Apraxia Walk at the end of this month. The Apraxia Walk raises money to support the Apraxia-Kids.org. There will be food, fun and information for families. Last year the Dallas chapter raised the most money of any apraxia walk.  When the Dallas chapter raises enough money, Apraxia-kids sponsors an event in the community. Last year they sponsored an Apraxia expert to speak to parents and therapists. Take a look at this poster and share it as needed. Check out the poster or go to www.apraxia-kids.org Thank you, Dennis

New Way to Teach R

Hi all, I know I have tons of R students on my campus and I'm always looks for new/faster ways to help them achieve correct production.  I wanted to share some information I learned from the CEU as it has really made sense/helped with a lot of my students that none of my other tricks for placement have worked for. It's called R Made Simple:   https://www.northernspeech.com/coarticulation/r-made-simple/ Basically, the presenter has divided the R sound and all of its variations into three types (instead of the million I always tell my students there are): Ups, Downs and Slides. Up Sounds •     Sounds classified as UP sounds allow placement of the tongue in a cupped and retracted so that the sides of the tongue touch the upper molars and the tip of the tongue is elevated but not touching the roof of the mouth – No Movement Needed ·      Because the tongue is not needed for production of these sounds the tongue can be pla...
